Hey coach,
I’m gonna say it straight:
I hate nothing more than seeing smart, soulful, ready-to-help coaches…
…with no clients.
And in 2025? That’s happening way too often.
Why? Because the rules have changed. The buying climate is different. And what used to kinda work (hello vague bios and “I help” statements) is now background noise.
But don’t panic—we’re gonna fix it.
Let’s break down the 6 big mistakes I see coaches still making—and the better, way-more-aligned ways to get clients in the door, without the gimmicks or the burnout.
❌ Mistake #1: Selling Coaching Instead of a Concrete Result
Let’s get this out of the way first:
Nobody is Googling “find me a transformational coach.”
They are Googling things like:
“Why do I feel stuck in my career?”
“How do I stop caring what people think?”
“Why am I self-sabotaging?”
So if your offer sounds like:
“I help women live in alignment and step into their power…”
…it’s too vague. No one knows what that actually means or how it applies to them.
✅ Fix it:
Speak to a specific, real-life problem your ideal client is facing.
Try this instead:
“I help high-achieving women stop second-guessing themselves and finally follow through on the thing they keep putting off.”
That’s a yes moment. That’s tangible. That’s how you build trust.
❌ Mistake #2: Giving Off “Look at Me” Energy
You’re charismatic. You’re magnetic. You’re funny at networking events.
And yet… crickets.
Why? Because “look at me” energy doesn’t land anymore.
We can feel it when someone is trying to prove, impress, or get picked.
✅ Fix it:
Shift to “Here I Am” energy.
It’s quieter. It’s bolder. It says:
“I’m here to serve, not to perform. Take what you need. I’m not for everyone.”
Here’s a quick example:
-
Less: “Here’s how I went from broke to booked in 30 days.”
-
More: “If you’re quietly panicking about money and wondering if you’ll ever make this work—I see you.”
This is about connection, not performance.
Ask real questions. Make real connections. Share after you listen.
That’s what creates safety—and safety is what converts.
❌ Mistake #3: Thinking People Know What You Do
You’ve got content. You’ve got a cute logo. You’ve got testimonials.
But if I polled your audience and asked, “What does [insert your name] actually do?”…
Would they know?
✅ Fix it:
Your messaging needs to be stupid clear.
Like, 4th grader could repeat it back to their mom at dinner kind of clear.
Try this checklist:
-
Who do you help?
-
What problem are they facing?
-
What shifts when they work with you?
Say it. Then say it again. Then say it again for the people in the back.
Clarity isn’t boring—it’s magnetic.
❌ Mistake #4: Selling Features Instead of Outcomes
Stop leading with how many sessions, modules, or support calls they get.
That’s like a restaurant menu saying:
“Comes with fork, knife, plate, napkin.”
Umm… great. But what am I eating?
✅ Fix it:
Tell them what their life will look like after working with you.
Try:
“You’ll stop spinning in indecision, set clear boundaries without guilt, and finally take action on what you want.”
Sell the outcome. Not the cutlery.
❌ Mistake #5: Waiting for Clients to Find You
This one stings, but let’s be real:
If your entire marketing plan is posting on Instagram and praying…
It’s not a strategy. It’s a spiritual practice.
✅ Fix it:
Start reaching out—personally. Like, real emails. Real DMs. Real voice notes.
Even if someone isn’t your ideal client, ask them:
“Hey, I just opened spots for [insert offer]. Know anyone who’s been stuck in [insert problem]? I’d love to help.”
✨ Bonus: Offer a low-risk “test drive” session like a 90-min breakthrough or strategy call. Something juicy that gives them a real win.
And let them know: if they want to keep going, that fee gets applied to your full package.
No pressure. No “I’ve got a special offer for the next 6 minutes!” energy.
Just integrity-based sales that build trust.
❌ Mistake #6: Selling Intangibles Without Showing the Real-Life Impact
“I help you feel aligned.”
“I guide you back to your power.”
“I help you reconnect with your authentic self.”
Love you. Mean it. But if your client doesn’t know what that actually looks like, they’ll scroll right past you.
✅ Fix it:
Ask yourself:
“If I had a camcorder in their house three weeks after we worked together… what would I see them doing differently?”
Would they:
-
Speak up at work without rehearsing it 14 times?
-
Finally book the retreat they’ve been dreaming of?
-
Set a boundary with their sister and not feel like garbage about it?
Say that.
People need to see the movie trailer of what life looks like on the other side.
Don’t just sell the inner shift. Show the outer ripple effect.
✨ The Bottom Line
Your coaching is powerful.
But if people don’t get what you do, don’t feel your confidence, and don’t see a clear path to a result?
They won’t buy.
This isn’t about being louder or fancier.
It’s about being clearer, truer, and a little bit braver in how you talk about your work.
And hey—if you’re ready to ditch the spin and actually build a real, thriving coaching business with simple systems and support?
That’s literally what I help with.
